Bricks & Mortar (Why I’ve been offline)

Greetings nomads!

It’s been awhile, I know.

Since leaving for MMA bootcamp in Thailand back in May, I haven’t made a single post, making this the longest hiatus I’ve ever had.  I really appreciate what few readers I have left and feel I’ve taken my audience for granted, so I apologize for my absence without giving an explanation. Let me answer some questions.

Why the absence?

The truth my life has changed.

In Thailand I pushed myself to the absolute limit, training 5 times a day sometimes, and this physical Everest brought spiritual clarity that pushed away from this blog.

What’s changed?

I’m at a stage in my life where I feel like putting down roots, and the Naughty Nomad lifestyle just doesn’t hold the same appeal it used to. Sure, banging my way around the world was super fun, but I don’t want to be that guy when I’m 50. I don’t see myself being happy continuing down this road.

I want more.

I want to build a life for myself and have a family. My bachelorhood inspired a trilogy of books—I’ve had a good run—and wiser men than me have taught me that hedonism and the black pill is not the answer… at least not for me. (We all walk our own path and I don’t judge other men for living the way they see fit.)

I also realize that I’m not very interested to building this new life through a screen either.

I want to do it with bricks and mortar, face-to-face with my bare hands. I’m a social dude and it suits my nature.

I’ve invested in real estate, I’m about to open a bar/restaurant, and I’m in a loving relationship with a good person.

Here’s us celebrating a goal during the world cup (Ireland didn’t qualify 🙁 )

Shocking, I know, but you know what? I can’t wait to wake up in the morning! Life in the med isn’t so bad…

And here’s the snapshot of me signing the lease for my new venture.

Will I stop having incredible adventures?

Hell fucking no, but right now I’m pausing to sort my future out. That adventurous spirit is part of who am I, but this year I’ve just been hanging around Europe close to home. In the last two months I’ve been in Spain twice, and I was even flown the Lithuania to play a reggae gig for some oil tycoon’s grandchild’s baptism. Bizarre.

What about my new Mexican Pirate book?

It’s release is delayed until I open my new business. I feel it’s a great book and I can’t give it the attention it deserves right now. It will be ready when it’s ready. I feel no need to rush.

Where is this blog going?

I’ve no idea, but I really feel the brand restricts me right now, so I may begin to migrate to a more open platform. I want to talk about other things besides travel and women.

When will hear from me again?

Probably closer to my book release in the coming months, but if you’re interested in what I’m doing it’s best to follow me of social media. Here is my Instagram, and Twitter. The Naughty Nomad Facebook group is also quite active and filled with like-minded guys on the road.

That’s all for now folks. I’ve got to build furniture and do some beer tasting 🙂

With love and respect,

Mark.

If that’s all in Thailand, then you just hit all the checkboxes of what not to do there.
I hope it’s not and if it is I pray it still somehow works out for you.
Just try not to fall from a balcony.

    Godspeed!

Did you not have visa issues for running a bar/restaurant in Europe? Good luck with your venture, hope it turns out alright.

My parents are in Malta.i have visited a few times.
The history in ballets looks great the women.
And it’s the med (which I grew up in….elsewhere)

If I had money if like a base of my own there and a local Maltese girlfriend.

I’m older now been following you since your Antarctic trip.my lifestyle never really caught up to yours…I still don’t know how you finance it all.

    Wow.

People are jealous of others. The young man might wish he could settle down and get married and the married man might wish he was free to travel.

You can be 70 years old and wonder how you could you have learned nothing.

Should you go to school, get a job, and get married?

    Who knows?

called it end game did seem obvious for about the last 2 years.
guess the ancients were right on this that this hedonism really does nothing for us.
Glad you are setting up shop in europe with a local girl, so many guys here putting non western girls and culture on a pedestal and fantasize its better there, but hey they want to come to the west for a reason.

your venture should be a success it seems up your ally…..plus no need to be that sexpat

Been dipping into your blog every six months or so for a few years. Looks like the Nomad’s now grown up, have always wondered when you would write such a post but knew it would happen one day. Happy for you pal.

Hope no young lads out there reading your post get put off hedonism and chasing tail though, it’s a stage that’s important (and a lot of fun).
