A Modern Rite of Passage (MMA bootcamp in Thailand)

Related imageIn a world where masculinity is under fire, we need to forge our paths and create new rites of passage for men.

Tomorrow I’m off to Thailand for a month to train MMA with my two younger brothers. It will be a time of discipline, battle, bonding, and hopefully a little fun too!

I believe any man wanting to develop themselves should do something like this at least once in their life. I know I’ll be encouraging my future sons to do so (if I am blessed to have them).

Mastering the arts of Mars and Venus will serve all men. Any guy that combines game with martial arts and strength training will be miles ahead of the competition.

My Story

Around 2014 I was offered free Muay Thai training in Thailand if I documented my experience for this site. The only problem was that it also coincided with my last chance to get a graduate visa for USA, so I choose to move to New York City instead.

I don’t regret my decision. I had the most debauched time of my life in NYC, created a great book out of it, made lifelong friends, loved, lost, and stacked cash.

I had little interest in martial arts at the time, but after getting inspired by a podcast I did with Way of Men author, Jack Donovan I decided to get into it, and joined a Krav Maga gym nearby. During this time, the gym offered a few introductory classes of Brazilian Jujitsu (BJJ), and I loved the intensity of the sparring.

Since moving to back to Europe, I’ve gotten more into BJJ by joining a kick ass, sociable gym (shout out to Arete Malta), and recently placed in a competition for the first time (open weight, white belt).

My body is also in a lot better shape than is was all those years ago thanks to strength training. Combined with the fact that I get to do this while hanging out with my two brothers, the timing couldn’t be better!

What’s Ahead

For the next month I’ll be broadcasting from Phuket. If you’re interested in my journey or perhaps doing something like this yourself, check out my YouTube channel, and follow me on Instagram and twitter for updates.

I’ll be trying a few different martial arts, but I suspect I’ll mainly be focusing on Muay Thai improving my BJJ.

I’m not sure which gym I’ll attend yet, but here’s an example of one. It looks bad ass!

Anyway, if anybody is in that part of the world or has any recommendations, let me know! I’ll be visiting Phi Phi, Krabi, and Bangkok afterwards.

On my way back home, I’m also be visiting Qatar and Kuwait.

Oss!

Tiger gym in phuket is definately your best choice if you are looking for quality. Lot of ufc stars are training there. Even Cody nolove was there couple of months back

Posted under “Marital arts”, not “Martial arts” LOL

I hear good things of both Sutai and Sumalee.
You might also want to consider general location. Most gyms are in the fitness area near Chalong, but maybe you prefer to be near Patong (party).

If you haven’t booked anything, I’d just get a moto and checkout the different places in person once there.

If anyone needs a little inspiration to do what Mark’s talking about watch documentary “Blessed with venom” – Aussie John Wayne Parr was one of the first westerners to do this, eventually became champion. Makes you wanna buy a plane ticket

    I completely agree Mark.

I myself used to do Krav maga training for 2 years. I should definitively give Muay Thai a shot.

Check the ‘human weapon’ (if you haven’t already).

Keep us update on how it’s going man 🙂

Tiger Muay Thai, although offers good quality instalations and equipment, is really overprized. You can find acommodation, food and training for half of the prize in any of the other gyms around (actually, in the exact same street you can find at least 6 other gyms)

Life may be all fun and games now in the USA, but as offshoring increases, illegal immigration rises, hard-working Americans die off or dropout due to higher taxes and more regulations, the national debt climbs, there is more terrorism as the result of illegal American wars, the police become more brutal enforcing draconian decrees, the US Ponzi economy and stock markets collapse, cash is banned, Americans are implanted with microchips, and real crises and false flags are used to force Americans to go to the gulags and finally to the gas chambers and ovens, will Americans wish that they had spoken out earlier against the dangers of wars, debt, and tyranny?
