Overview

Buenos Aires is a city that well deserves its name. There is something in the air there. Those that love New York City, Paris, Hong Kong, etc. will love Buenos Aires. It’s everything you would expect from a large, modern metropolitan city, with fine dining, boutique hotels and hot girls—all at rock bottom prices. If spending US Dollars or Euros, everything is cheap, cheap, cheap. The “official” exchange rate would have made things moderately priced (note: still not expensive, by any means) but only a fool transacts business at the official exchange rate in Argentina [Zolo: You can get the black market or ‘blue dollar’ rate cambio oro places].

What are the girls like?

Looks and Personality

argentinian-girl_world-cup-2010_02Hot, friendly, fun, usually well dressed, and down to Earth. They love to party. Friends of mine claim to have had vastly different experiences but I can’t imagine it. I would easily give Buenos Aries a 7 out of 10 for women.

Charlie from Single Dude Travel gives his input in his city guide:

Before I went to Argentina I was under the impression from the Porteñas had met in Miami and other places that Buenos Aires was going to be a paradise of gorgeous sexy women. Wrong! Ok, sure, there’s a lot of nice looking chicks in Buenos Aires, to be sure, with lots of positive qualities, but somehow it doesn’t add up to everything one would hope for. They have plenty of the right raw materials; they’re tall, lean girls of Italian ancestry, they are very nice—so nice that I had a total of zero chicks shoot me down in a week—but while nice and friendly and pretty they just aren’t sexy. They don’t dress up that much, and while they usually look nice, they hardly ever look hot (no sexy clothes, no heels, no makeup). If you walk down the main pedestrian drag downtown, Avenida Florida, you will see hundreds of decent looking girls, but hardly ever will you see one that just knocks your socks off. Compare this to Bulgaria, where while having coffee on Vitoshka Street any random afternoon of the week you will see an outrageously hots chick every couple of minutes guaranteed. I think I saw fewer than 5 of those girls in a week in Buenos Aires.

Language

Another significant concern for the Single Dude Traveler to Buenos Aires is the language issue. This is not Central America or Mexico where people are heavily exposed to American culture and are obliged to learn English if they are well-educated. In Argentina the level of English is surprisingly low. University students or graduates may have taken English in school but they must not have paid much attention because many seem to have extremely low-level English. You must speak Spanish there.

Demographics: [added by Zolo]

Population: 2.9 million
Racial makeup:  88.9% White, 7% Mestizo, 2% Asian and 1% Black.

Any nightlife recommendations?

Argentine Girls

Club Shampp

Palermo, Palermo Palermo. This is your go-to neighborhood for bars, restaurants, boutique hotels, lounges, etc. The Argentinians like to party and party until late. You can easily find places to drink in Palermo until 2 or 3 in the morning. If you want to party till the sun comes up meet some locals pregaming in the bars in Palermo and let them show you the way.

Any other info we should know about?

Although large, Buenos Aires is a very walkable city. You will find wide sidewalks and nice cafes all over. It’s perfect for day game. Being such a large city there are probably unlimited options for cultural stuff, museums, art galleries, etc. —but that’s not really my thing. Although Uruguay is not really a good single dude destination, nor competitively priced, the town of Colonia is charming, quaint and just an hour-long jet boat ride from Buenos Aires. It’s an excellent side trip.

Getting high

The drug situation is fine, just like in Uruguay, just don’t be too obvious. Ask the guys selling trinkets at the corner of Avenida de Mayo and Florida (discretely) and they will hook you up. Smoking weed is OK in semi-public, and all my Argentinian girlfriends were hippieish and would usually join me for a puff. If a cop bothers you I’d recommend a bribe, maybe 50 or 100 pesos.

Personal Experience of the City

I’ve visited 3 or 4 times each for a stretch of 3 or 4 days. I just absolutely love it. It feels like a very grown up European city but for those that carry dollars or Euros everything it’s a fire sale. I find the women to be super hot and feminine. I just couldn’t have had more good things to say.

Odd. Almost everyone says Argentine girls are the hottest (and hardest to game) in South America.

I was in Buenos Aires for a few weeks earlier this year and I love the place. As well as the local girls, there are lots of girls from other south american countries (partly due to Argentina being currently relatively cheap, but still with good universities and other opportunities). I got my Columbian flag from a bar crawl. There are bar crawls most nights of the week that attract 200+ people at weekends, including lots of locals and girls. There are also language exchanges 3 times a week, which draw plenty of local and foreign girls, and where there are guaranteed to be good english speakers. But I found most girls spoke at least passable english anyway. Having said that, I believe speaking decent spanish would be a big help.
For daygame, try Av. Santa Fe (particularly towards the Alto Palermo shopping centre), as that has more fancy shops and runs though upmarket residential areas.
For transferring money at the ‘blue rate’ you can use http://www.azimo.com. You have to go pick up your cash from a designated office which can be a bit of a ball-ache, but it’s a big saving on the official rate you’ll get from an ATM.
By the way, the local guys can be pretty pushy, so expect attempted AMOGing – certainly on the bar crawls – I had to be on my toes to keep hold of my Colombian. It’s all fairly good natured though, because there are plenty of attractive girls around.
Incidentally, if you’re british (like me), don’t worry about the Falklands – although it’s still a big issue for them, it doesn’t stop them being friendly to brits. In general, once I got the feel of the place, I felt safe basically everywhere I went.

I am an American who speaks Spanish near fluently. I have spent over 9 months in Buenos Aires in the last 2+ years.

Girls Looks: Hotter than stated and spend plenty of time getting dolled up. The counter-example given in the post about the girls on Calle Florida not being dolled up is risible. That’s the heart of the business and tourist area. The going out area, as correctly stated in the post, is Palermo. Go out there on a weekend night, and you’ll see dolled up stunners.

Girls Personalities: They are not nice as the post states. Ali S nailed their reputation–tough, cocky, etc. My American friends in Argentina complain about this aspect of the girls all the time. Frankly I think it’s overblown. Go in with good game, and you’ll get only a few blowouts. But if you want easy, open, yes girls as a white guy, go to Colombia. Argentines are used to white guys, tourists, rich guys etc. And they are all too happy to blow you out.

Going out: “You can easily find places to drink in Palermo until 2 or 3 in the morning.”? LOL That’s when it STARTS. Seriously, that is peak entry time into clubs. I actually hate this aspect of Buenos Aires, so I prefer “After Office” events that are held midweek and go from 9 PM to 2 AM instead of 2 – 6 AM. Stay in Palermo.

$$$: Seriously: bring USD and change it on the blue market. Calle Florida is a riskier place to do it than a Compro Oro storefront.

Hola, soy Argentino y con respecto a algunos comentarios (for read this text, use translator) quisiera dejar unos consejos buenos.

Buenos caminos
    *
