Snapshot: Los Angeles, USA

Snapshots are mini town/city guides for smaller places or cities I have only experienced briefly. Here’s a little snapshot of LA.

What’s LA like?

west-hollywood_s460With the exception of downtown, most of Los Angeles feels like a never ending village with low rise buildings sprawled out for miles on end. Coming from N.Y.C it felt extremely relaxed. The beautiful weather and beaches were a welcome break from the cold East Coast winter. There is also lots of cool stuff to do if you’re here for a few days.  But bars closing at 2AM and sucky logistics cost the city major brownie points.

I’ll take NYC over LA any day.

What are the women like?

download (6)Every wannabe actress on the planet ends in LA, so you’d expect the talent to be good. However, on first impressions I noticed a lot more jaded cougars than young starlets. My very first tweet from LA was “I’ve never seen so many middle aged women with breast implants.” While it’s true the city is not short on young beautiful women, you don’t see these women  in abundance on the street. However, hit up the right places after dark and you’re sure to see plenty of Grade-A totty.

And what the character of the LA woman?

“L.A chicks are sexy but soulless,” described on fellow blogger, “The city attracts a certain breed—mainly materialistic narcissists.”

Not a great review, but I can deal with the sexy part.

If you want to get laid in the city, I recommend this post by Christian McQueen.

Where should I go at night-time?

la events gen resizeThe main two nightlife areas are West Hollywood/Hollywood and Santa Monica.  I found the city pretty dead mid-week, but there was a good bit of action on Saturday. One thing I like about L.A is that there’s a lot more rock bars than NYC.

That said, I can’t give any hearty recommendations having only spent four days there.

I’ll hand it over to the experts. Read these:

The Los Angeles Data Sheet by RC Fresh

L.A Day Game and Hunting Grounds by Enfant_Terrible

Any other recommendations/advice?

Weed is so easy to come by, it will find you.

Aside from that, there’s a few cool things to do on your visit. I strongly recommend Universal Studios. After that, check out the Chinese theater and the walk of fame in Hollywood, and take a stroll down Venus beach.

Bottom Line

Cool vibes for a few days, but getting around the city is a pain in the ass.

How did LA compare to many of the European cities you’ve been to?

Would a man wanting friendly, young talent be better off in a place like Krakow or Riga?

LA is easier to score in than Europe imo. People are more sexually liberal. But having an Irish accent could make me bias.

    Mr. Mark
How do the chicks in Southern California compare to your Euro jaunts?

Downtown is a good spot for partying, too.

Perch, Edison, The Standard rooftop, Honeycut (Asians). After typing this, I see RC Fresh mentioned a lot of these spots in his data sheet.

Hollywood has more than just clubs with long lines and expensive drinks. Happy Ending is a good frat/college type crowd walking distance in Hollywood. On Wednesday nights, Moscow is a 18+ weekly event at Lash Hollywood (check out ledisko.com for weekly flyers, free entry before 10:30 w/ flyer).

In Koreatown, Line Hotel is HOT for Asian chicks.

If you have a car and want cougars, go up to Bogie’s in Westlake Village (which is about 30-45 mins outside the heart of LA). This place is an active hunting ground. There’s a Residence Inn not far away to stay at.

If you have a car and want a more laid back crowd, check out Hermosa Beach (south of LAX).

Hipsters? Silver Lake in a heartbeat, Cha Cha Lounge. (need a car or taxi/Uber/Lyft).

Getting around LA can suck, but the red line & purple line on the subway may be of use to visitors. Downtown, Hollywood, Universal, and Koreatown are all connected via the red & purple lines.

West Hollywood and Santa Monica/Venice would require a bus or taxi/Uber/Lyft. Do not take a taxi or Uber/Lyft to Santa Monica from anywhere outside Santa Monica during any peak traffic hour unless you want to shell out some bucks.

    Also…

Westwood is packed with both Persian chicks and UCLA college chicks. There’s not many ‘clubs’, but the day game can be great for UCLA. Two awesome Hookah spots across the street from each other: Gypsy and Habibi. There’s a W Hotel there with pool parties during the summer.

I recently stayed long term in LA for the 3 months. The nightlife is ehh. I recommend a few bars in Koreatown (R-Bar, and Brass Monkey, which is Seth McFarlane’s karaoke bar). The 1:30AM last call is such a drag, even though I knew some after parties, it was just an inconvenience to close that early.

When it comes to girls, go for the Hispanic/Mexican girls, you can find some gorgeous ones who are MUCH friendlier than the superficial white women who are on the Hollywood/WEHO bar scene. Had luck with both types, but I’m a sucker for spanish women.

Foodwise In-n-Out is a must try, and also $10 ALL YOU CAN EAT KOREAN BBQ. BEST THING EVER WHEN HAMMERED AT NIGHT.

TRANSPORTATION SUCKS! LYFT/UBER/METRO/CAR/WHATEVER. ALWAYS EFFING TRAFFIC

I know it’s a snapshot, but it’s a crappy one. You’re putting almost no input and are only referring to other people their posts or quoting them. Also, not even a small story? Quality is going down.
