1 Year Gym Results (with Video)

Some weeks ago when posted 4 Good Strength Training Goals for Beginners, I said I’d update you guys on my 1 year results of my strength training program using Stronglifts. But instead of another long winded post with stats and charts, I thought I’d a make a little video for you guys! My form is far from perfect when I’m maxing out, but I’m lifting solid weight for a beginner my size.  If you avoid going on month long benders in the Caribbean and Eastern Europe, you can expect to get even better results in your first year!

Onwards and upwards! The last three weeks in NYC have been a disaster health wise, but tomorrow I finally move into my new place and I can join a gym and take up a combat sport. Yeah!

Mark…good staff..do not lift too much too soon ..watch your back
At the end it is not how many lbs you press but how the workout fits to you ….
How you doing with cardio ? Most guys start with 80% weights and 20% cardio…
after some time (lets say 40) it turns around 80% cardio and 20% weights.

Well you can go without cardio just do some more super sets adn giant sets.
Anyways the calories that your body will spend on repairs would be higher than that is spent running for an hour.

Maximize you negatives and make sure you lower your weight when you lift for at least 3 seconds – this will generate the most amount of muscle fiber micro tears.

      BTW
      congrats on the results!

Good work. The benefits of exercise can’t be underestimated on increasing stamina and ability to pick up. Women like hot bodies same as we do. Pints, shots and whatever food we eat (fries, nachos, pizza) while drinking take a toll on the body and the eventual gut takes away our ability to pick up. Working out can help offset this but let us know when you reach the point that you stop/greatly reduce your drinking to focus on weightlifting as it eventually happens.

What does it cost per day on the road in E. Europe, Latin AMerica, and SE Asia?

Which region is best overall- EE (best women, cold) LA (great weather) or SE ASIS (Cheap, great weather, plentiful women)?

I think I answered my own question- SEA wins!

When nomad begins BJJ or the combat sport, he will see men shorter and thinner than himself who are real destroyers, who posess true confidence because of it. only then will he realise that size shouldnt be the prize.

    • Santi April 1, 2014 at 10:29 pm #

Dude, all things being equal, size matters tremendously. That’s why combat sports have weight classes.

I train BJJ, and even though smaller guys are more agile, if you’re bigger you can outmuscle them and make up for sloppy technique with strength. Same applies if you’re facing a much stronger opponent.

      Food for thought,

Very good results in your training. Has lifting helped your game any or horniness levels?
Once again to see a smaller built man move that much weight and do a muscle up is really cool visually and literally. Much love.

Leroy: Lifting has improved my confidence and me more attractive. I’m pulling better quality as a result. And it’s defo increased my sex drive.

    Lonny-
Krav Maga is a good one to learn- it was born in a combat zone to kill and maim others. But Brazilian jiu jit su is a warriors art-
No weaklings train that stuff- its more demanding than boxing or kick boxing imo. A guy with good grip strength can do well in the street- they mess with you take an eye or larynx with you after you rip it out.

And then spend the next few decades in jail

Good gains, but I think that getting into any intensive sport (not just MMA or boxing) is far better than Stronglifts and other goal-based programs because that way it’s easier to get into a ‘fitness-friendly lifestyle’ once you’re doing an organized competitive activity that you enjoy.

With a goal-based approach it’s all too common to level off and get off the bandwagon once your goals are achieved, in a competitive sport the only way to go is up. The mental benefits of a competitive sport are also significantly better.

But since you’re intending to go into MMA training, you seem on course for the lifestyle-based approach, and I’m sure the Stronglift gains will come in handy with that (although physical strength isn’t really a prerequisite for MMA) if you maintain them.

Squat – didn’t get below parallel on either rep in the video so not counted as a rep. Your real max is 10kg less possibly.

DL – why leaning back so much? no need and unnecessary. You can do 160 easily with form corrections.
