Overview

Lagos is f**king chaos. I’ve been to hundreds of cities in my life but Lagos takes the cake in terms of intensity; it’s hard to imagine a crazier city. It’s overwhelming, frantic and dangerous. To quote a Ghanaian friend: “The only people who survive there are the ones who move fast.” White expats we met there only drive at night with local drivers (armed) in cars with blacked out windows. For some people, it is the world’s biggest hell-hole. That said: I fucking  love it! Lagos is intoxicating. The girls, nightlife and everyday excitement gives this looney bin the Naughty Nomad seal of approval.

WARNING: Lagos is not for first timers in Africa.

The Girls

If you haven’t already, I’d strongly recommend  you read my article Sex in Africa 101 before continuing.

Oluchi Onweagba

In terms of the average girl on the street, Lagos has the best looking girls in West Africa. This may have something to with the fact that 1 in 5 Africans live in Nigeria, and the best bred of 200 million people tend to be concentrated in areas like upper class Victoria Island and Lagos island.

Nocturnal Lagos ladies are crazy, sexy, shameless, ruthless and addictive. Picking up at night in an urban adventure. If you’re a young white guy you will pick up model-type girls like a rock star. But remember -be vigilant with your vagina; choose your girls wisely.

Day time it’s easy to meet girls. Shopping malls on VI are the best place to meet high class chicks. There are plenty of genuine girls around. Universities are a great option too.

If you need a break from the notorious Lagos nightlife – pipeline. This is Africa’s largest city and everyone speaks English. You will be spoiled for choice with the amount of chicks online who’ll gladly meet up.

I would like to add I love Nigerian girls. I’ve dated many of them throughout the years and find them great company, both in and out of the bedroom. Their bodies, their attitudes and their style I rank among the best there is. Furthermore, they are more understanding of non-exclusivity. Thumbs up.

Nightlife Recommendations

Victoria Island is the place to be for the highest quality women.

Pat’s Place

This expat hangout might be my favourite bar in all West Africa. The beers are cheap, the crowd is welcoming and the girls are plentiful, eager and gorgeous. It’s got great live music, a dance floor and an atmospheric beer garden. This is the place to be.

Belly Dancer @ Ynot

Ynot

If you like Manila Bay in the Philippines you’ll love this place. Open 24/7 with tons of sexy girls. When it hits 4AM and everywhere else closes.. come here. It considered a shoring spot, but fun nonetheless. Facebook page here.

Getting High

Courtesy of webehigh.com

Where to buy marijuana: Akerele around the market is where you get the good ganja. Around African Shrine, Agidingbi, and Oshodi you will also find alot of pot.

Our latest info says go to the beaches. Koramo beach is our little Amsterdam. Nigerians love to get high in front of the ocean and enjoy the view for hours!!!

Marijuana prices: 10 Grams goes fore N400 around $3. Another reporter added: “200 Nara (Nigerian currency) – about $1.50 for 5-8 individually sized “wraps.”

My Lagos Experience

My first day in Nigeria was the most heart-wrenching 24-hour period of my life. The Siege of Lagos nearly killed us (literally). You will have to wait for that one…

Amazing stories, very useful guides! Please don’t stop! I know u won’t 🙂
U really made me want to visit West Africa! The only thing that troubles me a bit is malaria prevention, since a lot of drugs have bad side effects on me. What is your take on it?
Did u use any medication (what brand)? Have u caught anything so far on ur Africa trips? I know u didn’t always sleep under bednets… 🙂 Thanx

    • Naughty Nomad August 23, 2011 at 1:01 pm #

@Jo: I don’t use any meds, including for malaria prevention. Stupid I know, but I’ve been bitten hundreds of times and never got anything. I find a spray is your best bet.

I apologize for sounding like I’m complaining, but do you think you could be a little more detailed? You say Lagos is dangerous but you love it. Can you explain how it is dangerous? Are we talking stolen wallets or getting abducted, tortured, chopped into pieces and fed to dogs? Could you make a post discussing the issue of danger? You’ve traveled through war zones, obviously it can’t be as perilous as most think, is that true or not? Would be great if you could share more.

  14. AOW June 24, 2012 at 12:22 pm #

PS. You also say Lagos is not for first-timers. Why? In what sense? How could visiting other African countries prepare you for Lagos any differently than reading up on other travelers’ experiences online would?

Visiting Lagos now…Thanks for your Guide. A quick Update….Y2 has closed down. Troy by the tarzan jetty and Caliente are two very good alternatives.

  24. Shawn January 19, 2015 at 2:38 am #

Nomad, great review as I’m very seriously considering going to Nigeria however though I’m a pretty seasoned loner traveler to third world countries, this would be my first to Africa, so you probably wouldn’t recommend Lagos, but have you any experience in other parts of Nigeria like for example Benin City or port Harcourt, etc? These could be nearly as good as Lagos in terms of COHU and QOG without the total Chaos of Lagos?

Also, what about flying straight to Lagos instead of to Abuja, you think that takes a lot of the negatives out of it for first timers?

The thing is I’m looking for the very dark African women with the longer noses like in Nigeria, don’t like the lighter mixed girls of the east, and don’t want to have to worry about learning French since I have enough trouble with Spanish, so Nigeria looks like the best place for me from what I’ve read of yours.

    • Chichi February 2, 2015 at 1:44 pm #

Hi Shawn… you don’t have to be alone when you get to lagos. I m a naughty Nigerian chick..very adventurous as well. Add me up on Facebook “Chichi Janet”. There are a lot of Chichi’s Janet. But you will fish me out through my profile picture… Goodluck

      • Shawn February 6, 2015 at 6:51 pm #

Lol, well “Janet,” if that’s who you are, even if there weren’t a few thousand other guys looking at your post, a little bird is telling me you’re prooobably not who you say you are..but don’t worry, no doubt you’ll get a lot of guys wanting to take you up on that. Thanks for the offer though! 😉

        • Mandela D February 21, 2015 at 1:17 pm #

          Shawn – my recommendations:

You’ve never been to Africa before?

Then go to the following places for the hottest women in all of Africa, BEFORE going to Nigeria:

          1. Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
          2. Luanda, Angola (Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes is from Angola) Portuguese is required.
          3. Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire (French is required)

Then my friend, you will be prepared for Nigeria.

          • Steve August 4, 2017 at 7:11 pm #

I visited Cote d’Ivoire as well as Burkina Faso n Niger without speaking any word of French n I tell you: it’s possible…

  25. Shawn February 2, 2015 at 7:56 pm #

Wasn’t sure if I should write this here or the “Sex in Africa 101” blog. Anyway, people considering visiting West Africa should consider this carefully! After looking into traveling to Nigeria and Ghana alone, I absolutely could not believe all the BS you have to provide to enter their damn counties. Note, I’ve been to 7 Latin American countries, as well as the Philippines, and Jamaica with very little complaint if any entering any of these countries. However just so you know what you’re getting into by wanting to enter these counties I’ll lay some of it out for you. And I more than welcome any corrections from Nomad or anyone else for what I’m about to state.

I should mention there is very little difference in what is required of you to enter Nigeria from Ghana, so I must assume other West African countries are the same or very close.

Okay, here is what is required of anyone planning to visit these countries. Note I say planning, because if you don’t have these things, brother..you ain’t getting in!

Wow, where to begin? First, on top of a passport, you need a visa. That’s right, a passport isn’t enough, but not only that, you’re passport needs to have at least one page on it totally blank for the “special” Nigerian visa stamp. And no, those “amendment” pages in the back of your passport don’t count (only pages 8-21). Oh, and you must have at least 6 months left on your passport from the day you leave whichever country you’re visiting.

Now, assuming you have enough blank pages on your passport for the visa, you still need to qualify for the visa, which by the way will cost you about $200, and that’s just for one country. You need separate visas for other countries like Ghana, so tack on accordingly.

What you need to send with your visa application or you don’t get one:
    1. Two passport photos of yourself

    2. Letter of invitation, accepting immigration responsibility or evidence of financial support from individual Nigerians or Nigerian organizations. (from what I understand, depending on where you send your application, this may not be necessary)

    3. Proof of hotel reservations with the country visited.

    4. Evidence of sufficient funds to support stay in country; most recent bank statement.

    5. Computer generated flight itinerary from the airline or travel agency or copy of airline tickets showing round trip travel to country and onward flight. (Okay, let me get this straight, I have to buy a airline ticket to your country before applying for a visa to get into your country, but if I don’t qualify for the visa for some reason, I’m stuck with a $1000+ unrefundable airline ticket, nice! So better make sure you plan your trip way in advance in case you have to try again and again to qualify.) The reason for this requirement is beyond me other than to cause you a major inconvenience!

    6. International certificate of vaccination against Yellow Fever. (This is my personal favorite! First of all, I’m adamantly against vaccines and never get them! And anyone who actually knows the unbias truth about them would be against them too, but if you’re like most people who believe all the half-truth twisted lies by big pharma about how safe and affected they are, fine, the vaccination will cost you $150 to $350 plus another $35 for the certificate you need.

Now if all this is cool to you, than hay, knock yourself out! I’m not writing this to discourage anyone, only to warn people what you are in for. To me, at minimum this is a major pain in the ass, and frankly pisses me off! Makes me lose respect for these countries demanding so much “totally unnecessary” Bullshit from tourists!

Oh, by the way, did I mention that it’s very common if you are a non-resident white person (especially alone) traveling to Nigeria without anyone from West Africa with you to get pulled to the side and required to pay a bribe fee, so make sure you don’t have any cash on you or in your luggage unless you hide it damn well because they will search it. Wow, these countries really make you feel welcomed ha!

  26. Shawn February 18, 2015 at 1:02 am #

Just a little update on what is required to enter the country of Nigeria after doing more research and actually talking to multiple visa agencies (two of them in person). To get a Visa from the US to Nigeria, it won’t cost you around $200 for the visa as I stated before, it will cost you around $320. The embassy fee alone is $180 (not including processing at the embassy). The official Nigerian embassy website actually has a visa “on-arrival” program that can be done completely on their website, however there is a “little” catch! You must meet all the qualifications to apply. I would list those qualifications that need to be met, but why bother, they are laughably extremely exclusive, trust me, you won’t qualify! 😉

One little positive note, you can get the yellow fever vaccine for a little less money than I stated before, $20 less if you do your research. It’s possible to spend as much for all the qualifications for the visa as well as the visa itself as you do for your plane ticket..seriously! It’s worth noting that I talked to 5 businesses that specialize in visas and 3 of them were critical and negative about many of the stupid demands the Nigerian government puts on visitors to enter their country, no shit! Maybe if I lived in Europe, i’d be worth it, but from the US, too much hassle and BS expenses for me getting there, meeting entry requirements, and even staying there since there are only cheap dump hotels and expensive hotels with nothing in between, not to mention getting around is not cheap with all the traffic. Naaa, the women aren’t worth it to me for a country that should be a hell of a lot more economical and less hassle to visit! Good luck guys!

don;t understand something. 50eur/night in Lagos? even in Lagos from Portugal is easy to find a grat place at almost a half of the price? What is the problem? Nigerian people are so rich to afford that money? 1500eur/month only for “a private room”? If I understand also there isn;t a lot of turist there to rent that rooms..so? We need 2000eur/month to survive there at minimum?

    • Steve December 2, 2015 at 1:12 pm #

In VI 50€ isn’t enough but rather the double for a simple room. On the mainland e.g. in Surulere there are plenty of other options for less than 20€.

  28. Lagosman March 23, 2015 at 12:52 pm #

Nomad is right about most of things. But missing few important details…i live here, and as a white guy its not easy sometimes. the girls are easy to get, begging u to take them home, but they are dirty prostitutes, they will ask u for money in the morning and keep complaining that u didnt pay enough. Beer in bars is from 1eur to 8eur in clubs. The city and beaches is dirty with no cleaning services so imagine how it looks like. Worst traffic jams during day i have ever seen, drivers are rude and always breaking the rules, all cars scratched or bumped. Police check points at night…always asking for money, or they make up a story that u broke some road rule so they get some money from u, u can lose 10eur in 30 mins(2-3 checkpoints). I used to live in apartment on the island where electricity cost was 230eur for 2 weeks and im very economic person, at work most of the day. Now i live in a studio on the island, 100eur per nite. Food in supermarkets is not that expensive but more than in europe. But imported vegetable: 10eur per 1 brocoli. 5eur for iceberg lettuce, 6eur for 1kg of frozen vegetable, 2eur for 1kg of potatoes, 10 cheese slices 2,50eur, etc. Very cheap petrol. Everybody wants to sell you something on the street, u dont relax. Security at every gate, gate is at every company or compound. Some begging for money, as well as some customs at the airport. They think white people are rich and can support everybody. I meet very few white people here, in shop, airport, some bars. In general i must say its quite dodgy city with many uneducated poor people, desperate, but still in good mood and friendly. No respect for themselves though, low moral level, poor ethics. Within the higher circles, corruption, stealing, frauds….big time!

    • Jacob May 4, 2016 at 2:56 pm #

Basically, it sounds like Nigeria is a dump. Not worth the hassle or effort! Just to think there population will double in the near future…

      • Steve August 4, 2017 at 8:23 pm #

Lagos is not for pussys, that’s true. But if you pack ur common sense in ur luggage, you’ll have a lot of fun out there. Lagosians are very humorous, warm-hearted and welcoming people. I never paid 4 sex (apart from some drinks or ganja) n I never paid more than 20 Naira 4 road bribe. Of course ya can start a discussion if you think it worth but staying cool n making fun with the cops will help you more. Just my experience…

And: yeah! Lagos is not for first-timer and even not for people who actually are not in the moods for visiting Africa.

If you call Lagos a chaos, you’ve probably never been in Kano in the north of the country 😉 (Unfortunately not the safest place nowadays)
    BTW: cool blog

@Steve..How is Kano more chaotic than Lagos?? nowhere is more chaotic in Nigeria than Lagos…and that my friend is a fact!!

Dunno when you’ve been in Lagos last time. Maybe in the late 80s? I’ve visit Kano n Lagos in 2012 and Kano was by far the more chaotic city.

Nigeria has grown with flocks of beautiful ebony bombshells, from young to busty and from slim to older, the Nigerian female society has busted out in flames of beautiful damsels. One predominant place you will find these amazing flocks are mostly centered around Lagos and Abuja.

Amanda Phil Escort Agency has managed to harbour one of Africa’s most beautiful pearls, there you will find the most biggest escort directory of black women.
