Africa for Beginners

Considering visiting Africa?

First time?

For those of you who want to sample the delights of the dark continent, I have two trips that will blow your mind. Countries featured are English speaking, very safe, bureaucratic free and easy to travel in. Both itineraries  can be comfortably completed in under a month.

Check this shit out!

The Eastern Loop

Countries: Uganda, Kenya & Tanzania.

Duration: 3-4 weeks

Trip rating: 4/5

East Africa

Kenya is a little over-rated, don’t waste too much time here. Get frisky in Metropolitan Nairobi, do the mandatory safari encompassing the Massai Mara then move on. Lake Nukuru is a must.

Tanzania boasts some great sites. Visit Africa’s tallest mountain Mt. Kilomenjaro, afterwards head to idyllic Zanzibar island. You will likely find yourself transiting in Dar es Salaam, not a bad place to party. When you get to the island, spend two nights wondering the cobble stoned streets of gorgeous Stone town, before heading to the pristine white beaches up north.

Uganda is definitively the best of the bunch; the locals are far friendly than surrounding countries. Check out the hedonistic nightlife in Kampala, get your heart pumping white water rafting in Jinja and chill out on an island on serene Lake Bunyoni.

Optional add-on: Consider popping down to Rwanda from Uganda. It is very stable and perfectly safe now. Although Francophone, many of the younger generation also speak English. Malawi and Mozambique is also a possibility. You can also catch a train from Dar es Salaam to Lusaka and add on the Southern Jaunt if you have the time.

The Southern Jaunt

Countries: South Africa, Namibia, Zambia

Duration: 2-4 weeks

Trip rating: 5/5

Southern Africa

South Africa is a no-brainer. Base yourself in fabulous Cape Town; experience it’s mutli-cultural vibe and diverse nightlife. For day trips, consider ab-sailing down table mountain, a wine tour in Stellenbosch, and diving with great white sharks! Consider availing of one of the country’s many budget airlines and flying to Zambia.

Zambia is amazing. Get merry with the locals in the capital Lusaka, then head down to Livingstone, one of the best places on earth. Try the world’s best bungee jump, get sauced on a booze cruise on the Zambezi and watch the sun set of one of seven natural wonders of the world – Victoria falls (bloody gorgeous).

Namibia offers some of the most dramatic desert scenery on earth. The capital Windhoek is very pleasant for a day or two, but the action is in Swakopmund. Have a go sand boarding, then go quading through the desert (probably the most fun I’ve had in my life). Then get a superb aerial view of the desert meeting the Atlantic – by jumping out of a plane!

Optional add-ons: If you prefer to overland to Zambia, do a Safari in Botswana. If you have more time, rent a car in Namibia. You can visit the Himba tribe in the north or explore the stunning Skeleton coast further south.

So there you have it! If you have 2 months + consider Nairobi to Cape Town!

How easy or difficult is Ethiopia relative to these trips?

    • Naughty Nomad June 25, 2011 at 1:50 pm #

I’d rate it as medium difficulty. Travel is tough, English is as prevalent and you can get hassled a lot. However, I’d deem it pretty safe.

  2. Thomas June 25, 2011 at 7:42 pm #

    NN,

Although I have been with some sexy black women in my time. Most black women are unattractive….harsh facial features, overweight, dark skin, short frizzy hair, bad attitudes(not so much in Africa like the US). When guys travel they want to learn about a new culture as well as meet beautiful local women. Africa has beautiful scenery but for the most part ugly women.

    • gj February 5, 2014 at 6:31 pm #

I can see how you would say that if you just don’t like black or non-white women.

If you are looking at women subjectively: their facial structure, their bodies, then Africa has TONNES of great looking women! There are all ranges of skin-tones, from darkest black to white (I personally know a white, African-American woman…there are a number of them, especially in South Africa). There are LOTS of medium skin-toned women, especially in Ethiopia/Somalia.

LOTS of African women have great facial structure and/or fantastic bodies, or both. I personally prefer black African women to black American women. I have seen a LOT of African women that I think are very, very attractive. And, I say that, even though I think Asian women are the most attractive, in general.

I think that Ethiopia has the best looking women, overall.

    • gj July 9, 2014 at 11:58 am #

Ethiopian women may be the prettiest in the world! There are TONNES of pretty girls in Africa!

  3. Rebecca June 25, 2011 at 9:34 pm #

@Thomas, then you have not met beautiful women. Maybe black girls in America are overweight, in Africa woman are sexy beautiful…

    • Naughty Nomad June 26, 2011 at 1:51 am #

      @Rebecca: +1. Thomas, I take it you’ve never been to Africa…

    • Tunde July 7, 2014 at 6:05 pm #

@ Thomas, u are entitled to your views. I personally do not find most white women attractive last the age of 25. Women with some kinda melanin do it for me.
@ Rebecca, u also sound ignorant. I’ve met overweight women or every race and creed everywhere I’ve been to. Granted that my résumé is nothing compared to Mr. Nomad here

    • American white guy May 14, 2019 at 7:32 am #

Rebecca you are so right. African women have much much better bodies over all than American black women and they don’t have the ghetto attitude either like in America. Very few of the young women are fat or obsessed. but In America fat black women is the norm. I prefer African women.

  4. Angelsin June 25, 2011 at 10:40 pm #

True, I taught a seduction training in Tunisia a while ago and when I tried day gaming I had to lower my standards … drastically. Luckily there were a lot of tourists on the streets during the weekend.

  5. raliv June 26, 2011 at 12:18 am #

Swahili is very easy to pick up as well.

Throw a little hujambos around, naughty nomad?

    • Naughty Nomad June 26, 2011 at 1:54 am #

@angelsin: North Africa is a whole other ball game… much more difficult in terms of pick up. Religion is rife.
      @Raliv: Sijambo!

  6. Thomas June 26, 2011 at 2:31 am #

    Rebecca & NN
I have seen plenty of beautiful women but I am saying on average they are far less attractive than other races of women(white/latin/asian). It is difficult to find beautiful black women especially in Africa. A guy that pays for a ticket to Africa will be greatly disappointed in his selection of women. The **facial features** of black women are manly (larger noses, big lips, really dark skin, round face) those facial features are not attractive to most men. They are plenty of black women that I have seen that were not fat or even overweight but they were still unattractive due to their harsh facial features. The face makes the woman if you don’t have that then you don’t have much to work with.

NN, I think that you are misleading a lot of these men on the quality of women available in Africa.

    • Naughty Nomad June 26, 2011 at 7:57 pm #

@Thomas: You obviously haven’t been around the continent. Light skin, small lips and noses are also very common – take tribes like The Amhara, the Nubians, the Fulani to name but a few. I stand by what I say, African women are sexy as hell!

    • gj July 9, 2014 at 12:00 pm #

I think African women are prettier than white women.

    • gj July 9, 2014 at 12:04 pm #

What is attractive to “Most Men” is the “perfect face”…which has nothing to do with the colour of their skin, and the .70 hip-to-waist ratio. Big lips are usually attractive to “Most Men”, because as women get older their lips get thinner. Big lips is a sign of youth. What you are describing as attractive are your personal desires, or possibly what men IN YOUR AREA find attractive. This website is worldwide, so your comments are not valid to most men in the world, only those like yourself.

  7. Sid June 26, 2011 at 2:50 am #

For whatever reason, African-American women aren’t as attractive to me as their African counterparts. Check out these composite photos of different races:

    http://i.imgur.com/lO9OV.jpg

My college didn’t have many black people, but the African (and Caribbean) girls who were around were damn sexy. Ethiopians in particular are walking bombshells. In contrast, the African-American women were… well, I don’t like saying mean things, but they weren’t in the same league as the native Africans.

I think it’s been stated that the average African woman isn’t as attractive as the average white woman, but when they do get it right, they’re gorgeous. The converse can be said of Asians. I personally find the average Asian woman to be more attractive than the average white woman, and yet while there are many Asian 8’s, an Asian 10 is a rare occurrence.

But the deepest I’ve gone into Africa is Abu Simbel, so I’m no expert.

    • Naughty Nomad June 26, 2011 at 8:00 pm #

      @Sid: Great link man!

  8. Thomas June 27, 2011 at 5:24 pm #

Most black women are not light skin especially in West Africa like you are saying. Dark skin, large noses, frizzy(kinky) hair are the common traits among African women. I agree that **some** African women are sexy but I just think you are doing a lot of false advertising and overstating.

    • Naughty Nomad June 27, 2011 at 8:16 pm #

@Thomas: Have you been to West Africa?

    • gj July 9, 2014 at 12:06 pm #

I think dark skin and kinky hair are fantastic. Straight hair is boring, in my opinion.

  9. Thomas June 27, 2011 at 8:34 pm #

No, I’m a racist with a small dick.

    • Naughty Nomad June 28, 2011 at 2:35 am #

@Thomas: Sorry to hear that Thomas.

For readers, if you notice I’ve avoided generalisations on skin tone and facial composition in West Africa. Every country is different.
The average chick selling your bananas won’t be hot (well there was one girl in Bissau..) but anyway, go to the right venues in Dakar, Abidjan and Lagos, there is an abundance of insanely sexy girls. All will be revealed in time…

  10. Thomas June 28, 2011 at 4:36 am #

Who ever wrote that last message using my name you are a loser. Try not to be so sensitive to the truth. Black women in Africa are largely unattractive I don’t care which way you want to splice it. Its the reason why most men when traveling do not include Africa as a continent to explore or african foreign brides to bring to the West.

  11. Sid June 28, 2011 at 7:14 am #

Africans are also more genetically diverse than whites or Asians are. It makes sense that Africans would differ immensely even within their national boundaries.

  12. Idi Amin June 28, 2011 at 9:37 am #

    These armchair discussions are pointless.

Come on guys, just buy a ticket and fly down to Africa and check out for yourself!
Hasn’t the Nomad already made your mouth water?

I can’t wait to spend some sultry nights at Victoria Falls and parachute over the Skeleton Coast…

Nomad, just post some of your chick pics and the whiners will hopefully shut up for good.

Is it possible to travel solo thru Africa or do you always recommend a buddy to watch your back? Thanks.

  13. Tom June 28, 2011 at 4:28 pm #

Got an approx. budget for these trips? A price breakdown would be great

    • Naughty Nomad June 28, 2011 at 8:41 pm #

@Tom: €1500- 1800 per month would be loads, including all activities! That’s a flashpackers budget (more spend than a backpacker, but less than a mid-ranger)

      • gj July 9, 2014 at 12:08 pm #

From Europe, definitely check out the ticket prices on Emirates, Etihad and Qatar…and also Turkish. The tickets may be cheaper than African or Euro airlines, and the service will probably be a lot better.

However, if you want to meet some hot African Cabin Crew, then go for the African airlines. The service is Sawa Sana!

    • Jayvee May 15, 2018 at 10:16 am #

Ya learn soetmhing new everyday. It’s true I guess!

  14. Anon June 28, 2011 at 4:28 pm #

Thomas, I don’t know what your problem is that you seem almost obsessed with trying to “prove” that black women are ugly. Just accept the fact that it is a matter of taste and one man’s dessert is another man’s poison and vice-versa. You find black women unattractive because you were not reared in Africa. You were raised in a country that made European beauty standards the norm and that is what you are used to. If you were raised to find African women attractive with plates in their lips and tribal scarification, you’d grow up finding that attractive. It’s as simple as that. Hey mate. Thanks for providing interesting information about Africa. I’ll be spending 2 or 3 months meandering from Freetown to Lagos real soon. Will be 1st time in Africa. Your City Guides on that Freetown to Lagos stretch are being keenly anticipated.

    NN,

Can you please posts pictures of these beautiful african women that you have encountered?

    • Naughty Nomad July 2, 2011 at 3:04 pm #

@Thomas: You caught me. I’m secretly getting paid by the Africa Union to produce propaganda in order to drive hordes of horny westerners to the continent, in order to send tourist dollars in the government coffers. Shit, was I that obvious?

I totally agree wit NN. I have been to Ethiopia several times since 1999. Literally every Ethiopian is very sexy. even the ones I see on the roads are sexy too. – and I find myself adjusting my position. During those days the infrastructure in Addis Ababa was non-existant. It was very easy to pick up a sexy girl for around 200-300 bir. Nowadays they charge around USD100 which too is non comparable with the pleasure.
If you are in Ethiopia you should try the massage with happy-ending – it is one of my favorites in the mornings.
I could go on and on…….

  20. Pakistani September 28, 2012 at 10:34 am #

NN just trying to tell people what africa is, his site is great without any thing offensive, if you go to africa just for hookers you will be sad, just go there with open eyes and heart and see what africa is, its not what you see on CNN or BBC, As we know media dont have people to find the real truth about africa, i give five stars to NN for his excellent work on africa and providing all sort of info on his website with going in too detail about action. keep it up.

  21. Carlos October 18, 2012 at 3:36 pm #

Dear NN. I’ve discovered your website with unmitigated fascination and earnestly desire to partake of your valuable insights. I’ve met girls from Cameroon and Mali here in the States and although I didn’t actually start anything (too shy, low mojo), a deep, dark yearning was born in my heart and loins for these exquisite, high energy girls. I want your advice: I’m pushing sixty and feel that for the most part I’ve lost my “game,” which in my youth was outstanding–without really trying I didn’t pick up so much as got picked up, almost every night, often more than one girl at a time. But then I got married, divorced, married again and divorced again (both of them extremely hot Colombians who “gamed” me big-time, even though I was a loyal, devoted husband) and have fallen into a slump that really pains me and I need to get out of. Is it too late for me? In spite of my age and receding hairline, I have several things going for me, such as sparkling intelligence, smooth dance moves from my salsa years (Latino genes), two languages plus fairly decent French, worldly sophistication and an amiable, unassuming disposition that wins people over when they get to know me–but it’s getting harder and harder to get there. I’ve always had an almost mystical admiration for beautiful women and a good understanding of all the other qualities that make some of them especially wonderful: wit, elegance, charm, rhythm, empathy, humor. Now I’m crazy about West Africans, especially after what you have to say about Abidja, for example. I don’t want to become a “player” or a seedy sex tourist, but I also don’t want to languish my remaining years in impotent resignation. If the right girl comes around I wouldn’t mind “settling down” again into a meaningful relationship, but as you can see I have pretty high standards. I guess you get the picture. Any thoughts?

    PS: I like your writing.

    • Naughty Nomad October 19, 2012 at 11:12 am #

Thank you for sharing Carlos. Sorry to here about those chicas. Latinas got fire in the blood.
I would recommend West Africa, I met a few older gentlemen who had beautiful loving young wives. In Africa, they value a man who can take care of them. Be warned, however, they’re are a lot of players there, too. It’s depends what country you go for though. I can’t speak for Mali or Senegal. If I were you I would also strongly consider Southeast Asia.

  22. Carlos October 19, 2012 at 1:30 pm #

Ha, ha. You dirty dog! You just want to keep West Africa to yourself, don’t you? I’m not “married” to any one ethnicity, but the West Africans I’ve met really fire me up. Asians have a glaring drawback, aside from a certain submissiveness that sort of turns me off: they CAN’T DANCE! Not like the Latinas and the Africans, at least. Anyway, I don’t expect you to be my personal coach, but I’ll be following with interest any West African leads, especially on Cote d’Ivoire, that sounds like a nice place to spend some time and socialize with the locals. Thanks for your refreshing insights on “game,” though I guess for an “older gentleman” like me the moves would be quite different from techniques that work for you. I just found out after writing yesterday that you’re not even thirty! At your age and with your confidence and good looks, all you have to do is stand on a corner and smile. Great life! Congratulations.

  23. Antonio September 15, 2013 at 3:00 pm #

Great site! Been traveling for a month, two more to go. Rwanda and Ethiopian woman rival any country in the world.

Thanks for all the info naught man

  24. indranil November 20, 2013 at 11:15 am #

    Hi

i don’t see Morocco in your list… Or am I missing it while surfing your site?

  25. gj February 5, 2014 at 6:42 pm #

To say that “African” women are not good looking, in general, is wrong. Why? Because Africa is a HUGE continent, with MASSIVE genetic diversity. There are women who look 100% arab up north, and in Eastern Africa. There are women who look 100% white in South Africa (and elsewhere…the white African girl I know is from Nairobi). There are girls who are coal black, and “black” girls who are almost white, with every shade in between.

Some places in Africa speak English, some French, some Spanish, and in other places everything in between. Some places are Muslim, some Christian, some are Pagan, with all religions to be found somewhere.

It is like when people ask me what America is like. You can’t really say it is like a certain way, because America is so HUGE, with so many diverse cultures and peoples in it. Portland, OR, is a LONG way from Selma, Alabama….in a whole lot of ways.

The best places to visit in Africa, in my opinion, are Ghana, The Gambia, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda. The most dangerous are Lagos, Johannesburg, Somalia, Kinshasa and all of the DRCongo. The best for safari is Tanzania (better than Kenya). If you speak Spanish, you may want to visit Equatorial Guinea.

    • gj February 5, 2014 at 6:44 pm #

Sorry, forgot Addis Abeba and Ethiopia as great places to visit, and VERY hot women. About the hottest woman I know personally is from Addis.

  26. nescio September 14, 2014 at 11:37 am #

    Zolo,

How is crossing the Ethiopian-Kenyan border? Isn’t it a bit dangerous? I also read the roads are bad .. .I saw that flights to Kigali and Kampala are cheap, so might be better to go from there to Tanzania? How are those routes?

    Hi Guys,
Could not resist from posting on this forum.
First things first, Naughty Nomad, you are doing a great job.
To all others, I live in Australia and have travelled multiple times to Africa (South Africa, Zambia, Kenya, Ethiopia). Have been to Victoria falls, Johannesburg, Capetown, Table mountain, Shark diving, Bungee jump, Masai Mara safari etc and after travelling to a large part of many other countries (Australia, New zealand, India, SE Asia, Middle east etc), I can firmly say that I am in complete love with Africa. The women are extremely attractive, the nature is abundant and magnificient, the people are friendly at most of the places and the experiences you eventually get are unparalleled.
Especially the women, I find them extremely extremely sexy and that is my personal opinion without any disregard to other women from other ethnicities and geographies.

For those who wanted to see some pictures, after my visit to livingstone, I wrote a small poem and posted on my blog with some pictures I took at http://vishaltravelstheworld.blogspot.in/2013/05/o-almighty-only-you-can-do-this-all.html

    I hope it helps.
Aside to Naughty Nomad, I also did hunting in South Africa during the open season and it was an out of the world experience. You might want to read http://vishaltravelstheworld.blogspot.in/2013/09/the-hunt.html

Cheers guys. Happy exploring this incredible planet
    Many Regards
