It’s good to be back in Africa. It’s only been 48 hours, but the hours have stenched and sedated the hands of time. Maybe it’s the weather, maybe it’s because I just bought €50 worth of weed for €3,  or maybe it’s because I got my Gambian flag last night (dressed a Mexican pirate). All I know is, I’m happy as a pig in shit.

Overview

Prague is one of the finest cities in all of Europe. It seems like every second building exudes old world charm. Tourists from all of the world come to experience Prague. Walking around the city you can’t help but become infected with the vibe. It’s the kind of place you wouldn’t mind hanging out in for awhile.

The Girls

Local Czech girls are a mix of Slavic and Germanic. The tall, blonde, blue eyes type is here in numbers. The BWH (bust, waist and hips measurement) averages higher than the Poles, but lower than the Germans. Prague attracts girls from all over the world from Ukrainian strippers to Asian art students. If you’re flagging, consider Ostrava or Brno over Prague.  The plus is the capital is very much an international city so nearly everyone speaks English. Czech girls from the city are pretty liberal compared to other Eastern European girls, but are high in demand. This is stag-do central and many of the night venues host considerably more males. Nightlife Recommendations

At night, the city is stalked by stags and horny foreigners. It’s not ideal hunting ground, but there’s a party every night and always fun to be had.

Propaganda

Also know as Iron Curtain. This underground bar has an alternative vibe, with a few rooms and a bohemian clinetele. It’s a little off the beaten track and more popular with locals.

You will probably end up here, considering it’s the biggest club in Central Europe! It’s 5 clubs on 5 levels; each floor has its own style, from disco to hardcore trance. The sex ratio isn’t great, but it doesn’t matter because of the sheer numbers inside. The top floor (chill out) is the best for picking up. Website here.

Law Enforcement: Smoking weed is tolerated. Most common is smoking weed on streets, or in some pubs and in almost all normal music clubs (no disco).

Where to buy marijuana in Prague: To buy marijuana, all you do is keep an eye open for those who are smoking, if you are friendly they will sell some or direct you. Never buy from dealers in the street. They give you a half second peek and sell you fake weed.

Our local reporter added: “There is a great bar with the initials C.R. with the French word for red. Ask the bar tenders. If none of the dealers are around, be patient.. They will show every few hours. Expect to pay more than the locals though. Whatever you do don’t buy on the main square, Its a ripoff.

Prague Marijuana Prices: About 250-350 krowns for a gram. An addition by our local reporter: “1gm= 500czk a little over a 1/4. I am told the locals pay 250czk for the same.

My Prague Experience

I’ve been to Prague two times (once dressed as a Native American). I’ve picked up both times. The last time I visited was for two nights in March 2011. I forgot how beautiful this city is. I found most venues had a lot more men in them and local Czech chicks were actually hard to find. I focused my efforts on the city’s Asian population. My last night there I took home a cute Indonesian Muslim.

Overview

Bratislava looks pretty plain compared to other capitals in central Europe, but it’s still perfectly pleasant. It’s got a castle and few cute town squares, but doesn’t merit more than a weekend. Oh yeah – go on the weekend!

The Girls

Adriana Karembeu, Slovak.

Slovaks are attractive and resemble Czech or Polish girls. On average, they are ever so slightly darker and a little more curvier. They are not as hot as the Poles, but make up for it with their (relative) warmness and their down to earth attitude. Typical to Eastern Europe, girls take care of their weight. Most of the local talent hibernate during the week and emerge on Friday and Saturday nights. Don’t even think about hitting the ground cold in Bratislava mid-week – you’ll be a lonely boy. Plus the sex ratio is very unfavourable. If you do, your only option is  day game. Nightlife Recommendations

Bratislava is only good on the weekend. Go to the student village (10 mins by taxi) if you visit mid-week. Bratislava doesn’t do big venues, so don’t expect too much. Do the be-free pub crawl if your there on the weekend. I was there Tuesday and Wednesday so consider that with the following recommendations. Bear in mind – I must have hit a dozen venues over the two days.

Havana

Definitely to coolest venue in the city. Live Cuban music, cocktails and a party atmosphere – I love this little bar. Not a super place to pick up however as it’s a popular date spot and the crowd’s a wee bit older. A great place to warm up or bring a date. You might find a few horny cougars at the bar.

Infinity

This place is awkwardly situated, loud and really shit, but the quality of ass is second to none. It’s the kind of place where peakcocking should be employed. It’s a small club and entrance starts at €3. The staff are sexy as hell too.

FYI- Nu-Spirit club is cock fest and Channels is a pretentious shit-hole.

Buy Marijuana in Bratislava: The safest bet would be to sit in one of the city’s trendy café’s and ask young people at nearby tables.

Almost all of the pot is home-grown either in backyards, at country houses or in small indoor plots. Your best way to get a good toke is to find a pub filled with young Slovaks, sit down and strike up a conversation. The people are extremely friendly, especially compared to Czechs.

More on price: If you are buying, expect to pay about $15 USD per gram for pot of moderate to low quality. Hash may be available, but is expensive and very difficult to find.

My Bratislava Experience

My first night here I must have been to eight or nine venues. The place was a ghost town apart from the odd half-full bar. The only place I really warmed to was Havana. The second night I had a date with a Slovak girl and had an excellent night. I’d consider returning, but only on a weekend with friends.

What are one’s first impressions of Brno?

Heavy on churches and tram lines. If you’re coming from Prague, you will think the city is rather mediocre. If you’re coming from Bratislava, you might consider Brno a slight upgrade. Outside the summer months there are virtually no tourists.

What are the women like?

Brno is home to 80,000 students, several thousand of which our horny foreigners on Erasmus. Personally, I think Czech chicks (on average) are a little over-rated, but that’s only in comparison to other

Eastern European countries. This doesn’t change the fact the country produces some of the best looking women on the planet. The standard here is still much higher than in the West and sexy girls are not hard to find. A more detailed description of the Czech ‘look’ will feature in my upcoming Prague city guide. The good thing about Czech chicks in Brno is they have less exposure to foreign men than in the capital (flagalicious). That said, at night time it’s still a little more difficult to pick up here than in non-EU capitals in Europe. Because of the college scene, everything revolves around social circles. Social proof is crucial. Not a bad city to pipeline. During the day, hit up the universities. Getting laid here shouldn’t be difficult if you have a few days, Czechs are pretty liberal.

Where should I go at night-time?

I rate Brno’s night-life over Bratislava’s. There’s something going down every night in the city, but the venue changes depending on what night of the week

it is. Most places don’t get going until quite late. The weekend is open season. Monday nights and Thursday nights the place to be is  Livingstone. Your best bet is to just ask around though, students will give you the best advice. Alternatively, check out the Brno Night Life facebook page. If you’re on a date or want to buy/smoke weed head to the Hobbit. It’s around Maresova street with a tiny green sign outside it. Most locals don’t even know about this underground gem.

The Bottom Line

Nothing compared to Prague, but a worthwhile stopover.

More than meets the eye

It’s 3AM on a freezing February morn in Bucharest, Romania. I stumble into my hostel,  plonk my ass down in the kitchen and begin checking my emails. I’m notice the smell of cigarette smoke. I look up and see a rather gaunt looking Asian guy at the window sill, quietly observing the streets below. He’s the first Asian backpacker I’ve seen in the Balkans. I’m curious, and decide to strike up a conversation…

“Where are you from?”

He looks confused for a moment.

“Ohh… Japan. What country you?”

“Ireland.”

“Oh Ireland. I like Guinness!”

The conversation starts from there. I offer him a beer, he offers me a cigarette. His name is Yoshiaki. He’s unshaven and looks a little grubby, but seems nice. We discuss our homelands and engage in some light hearted banter. I try to find out why he’s in Romania.

“So why did you decide to come to Romania?”

“I go China. And then..  I go… Ehh”

Struggling for the words he takes out his passport. I scan through it – China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgzstan, Uzbekistan…  The guy got around. I’m impressed and probe him further. Having just taken the Tran-Siberian Railway the summer before, I wonder if he’s taken the infamous route also…

“So how did you get here? Did you take the Train?”

“No… I walk.”

“What? You walked here?”

“Yes.”

“From where?”

“From Shanghai.”

“What!? You walked here from Shanghai?”

“Yes.”

“What? Are you serious? When? How long have you been walking?

“Two and half year.”

Silence.

Yep, by foot.

He wasn’t lying.  It turned out the guy really did walk the entire breath of Asia.  His final destination was Lisbon, Portugal. If you take his migrations south for the winter, that’s a journey of well over 12,000 km!

That’s the equivalent of walking New York to LA three times over!!!

The whole time he dragged a  small cart to carry his luggage, camping gear, water and cooking equipment. He had only spent €12,000 in that time. I’ve met some hardcore pedestrians in my time, but this guy put Forest Gump to shame.

Personally, I’d never consider something so arduous - fuck that, but I had to admire the guy. Respect. Imagine telling your grandchildren you conquered Eurasia by foot…
